New Years morning

. 4.45am & 10.34am

I got up at the crack of dawn to capture what the sunrise on the first day of the year here in Hobart, Tasmania looks like. At 5am, and then later in the morning at 10.34am. It's amazing how clouds can just obliterate mountains so that they totally disappear. So as you can see over here in Hobart, the weather was grey and wet for most of the morning, which was fine for us as it meant more Scrubs (borrowed season 1 and 2 off our colleague Air) while eating bacon and eggs and more sparkling grapefruit juice over a drawn out brunch.

7.28am and 7.32am.
Despite reading Harry Potter til dizzy tired at 1am, I thought I'd sleep in, but I woke at 7.30 instead and managed to catch the burning orange morning sky before it got too light.

7.38am and 7.34am.
So glad it's Friday! This week went fast, but still tired by the end of it, glad to have free time to stay up late and read the last Harry Potter book. Which I've hadn't got time to read much recently because it's 9pm by the time we finish up with dinner.

719am and 740am Saturday morning.

There are animals in a short sequence in our next episode at work. And so far the blue bird is ready from design, and I saw the file for it. A very cute and animated cycle flying around in circles. Must have been done by Nickolay, the character designer/animator, whose rough work with old school style pencil and paper on a light table, I always can't wait to see because it's always so brilliant.
So I was adding bluebirds to my scribble notebook at work, next to the waterhorse.

722am and 728am

I think the trick to catch the pink colours, is to get up earlier.
Not that hard when you can't sleep from noise keeping you up since 5am.

I'll start adding some drawings from my sketchbook tomorrow.

Like yesterday, not too showy this morning either, but check out the little bird at the corner of the house rooftop. It was pretty happy.

Morning & Weather from Mount Stuart

Omigosh it's way too long since I was last here. I've been taking lots of photos. I have a new thing, for the past few mornings, I've woken up at the crack of dawn, and seen the light peaking through the blinds, and I'm instantly drawn to stand on my bedroom balcony in the Tasmanian Winter minus degree cold to take photos of the sky before the sun's up. The photos are well worth it. pure magic. The weather is totally magical to me. And being here in this apartment on this mountain in Hobart, the view is picture perfect for mornings and weather watching. So many different lights, everyday is different. I haven't got any drawings to post, but maybe I will show what every morning looks like.
Here is this morning.

7.43am and 7.53am.

and this was yesterday morning.

7.27am and 7.30am.
